LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. —Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon will host its last snorkelers next month as the water park makes way for a new attraction.

    Shark Reef will be closed starting Oct. 3, according to Disney's official website.  Its last day of operation will be Oct. 2.

    Shark Reef, which opened when the water park debuted in 1989, allows guests to dive into a 362,000-gallon salt-water coral reef environment and snorkel with the fish and plant life of the Caribbean.

    The attraction is open daily from noon to 4 p.m.

    The family-friend ride Miss Fortune Falls will replace Shark Reef.  Miss Fortune Falls is expected to open in 2017.
